Today we planned Colin's first big excursion out of the house.
We asked him what he wanted to do.
He began staring at something shiny.
We took it as he wanted some culture.

So we went to The High museum in Atlanta to see "The First Emperor" exhibit, which included some of the famed Terracotta Army of the Qin (pronounced chin) dynasty. These clay warriors belonged to Emperor Ying Zheng who ruled the Qin state and took over the remaining 6 states becoming the first emperor of unified Qin (later becoming China.)
So we began by finding a place to park on Peachtree St. across from The High. Colin needed a diaper change in the car so Rachael did the honors as I guarded the stroller.
Then we made our way out onto into the sun...it was a gorgeous afternoon.
Colin was seconds away from fussiness.
The High loomed in the distance...the anticipation was palpable.
It was so nice out...the sky looked amazing.
We walked up the ramp and waited in line to get our tickets (which were half off due to the fact that the exhibit closes tomorrow. It was around 5:30 and there were a crapload of people milling about. We walked up to the cashier and he informed us that the next available time they had to view the exhibit was 7:30pm. Bummer. we had like 2 hours to kill. We were a little annoyed but ventured across the street to Colony Square and the only restaurant that was open..a falafel place. Colin was already annoyed...the fussiness had begun.
After eating we walked back over to the museum and decided to kill a few mins by looking at some of the other exhibits. Rachael had employed the sling (see earlier blog posts) and Colin was out like a light. This made perusing some of the pieces from the Louvre exhibit much more enjoyable. Anyway...we looked at some really ancient stuff and before we knew it, it was time to get in line for the Terracotta Army exhibit. They allowed no pics...but I snuck a couple with my cell phone anyway.
The soldiers were so cool! Plus the fact that Colin was passed out made the trip that much more enjoyable. No screaming. No crying. No diaper explosions. It was nice.
Colin even posed (unwittingly) with a cardboard solider outside.
After the museum (and one car battery jump later...never try to run a mini Hadron Collider off your vehicle's battery in a effort to kill time during an in-car breast feeding-lesson learned!) we ventured to Brusters for ice cream (for mommy and daddy) and made our way home.
It was a pleasant day.
Now I can appreciate why most parents have to leave at least an
hour early to be anywhere on time.
Aww. Those soldiers looked amazing! and you got Brusters ice cream! I'm say that was a good outing. Glad you and Rachel were able to enjoy it while Colin enjoyed a peaceful rest :)
